Cedar West KY

My name is Nikki Conway and I am the new director for CEDAR West, Inc. Coal Education Grant.  CEDAR West, Inc. is a non-profit coal education program serving the following 4 counties in the Western Kentucky coalfield: Henderson, Hopkins, Webster, and Union.  CEDAR West's goal is to educate K-12 students and teachers and to increase public awareness of the coal industry along with its contributions to Kentucky's history, economy, and energy needs.

 

This is not a new grant opportunity for teachers. However, the last year it was active was 2019-2020.  Covid put it on the back burner until now.  I would like to share this opportunity with you, so that you may share it with your teachers. I am actually a graduate of Union County High School and taught at that same school for 27 years.  I taught chemistry and served as the Gifted and Talented Resource Teacher.  I participated in the coal grant for several years and saw first hand its benefits for both teachers and students.
